Won't play against Orlando

Ball (ankle) is out for Wednesday's game versus the Magic.

Analysis

Ball injured his right ankle against Brooklyn on Monday and will remain out Wednesday. KJ Simpson will likely receive increased playing time at point guard in his absence. Ball will have the entire All-Star break to recover before Charlotte returns to action against the Lakers on Feb. 19.

Exits with right ankle injury

Ball won't return to Monday's game against the Nets due to right ankle soreness. He recorded five points (2-5 FG, 1-3 3Pt), three assists, one rebound and one steal in 10 minutes before exiting.

Analysis

Ball was making his second appearance after he previously missed five straight games with a left ankle sprain, only to exit the game after tweaking the other ankle at some point late in the first quarter. He made a trip to the locker room before the Hornets announced at halftime that he would miss the remainder of the contest. The Hornets will likely provide an update on the extent of Ball's latest ankle-related setback following the game or on Tuesday, but it wouldn't be surprising if Charlotte held him out for its final contest before the All-Star break Wednesday in Orlando to give him extended time to heal. KJ Simpson started at point guard in the second half Monday's contest in Ball's stead.

Available for Monday

Ball (ankle) is available for Monday's game against the Nets.

Analysis

Ball missed the first leg of this back-to-back Sunday against the Pistons, but it's not a surprise to see him back in the lineup for Monday. There's no word of any restrictions, as well. Over his last three appearances, Ball has averaged 18.7 points, 6.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals on 38.5 percent shooting from the field.

Won't play Sunday

Ball (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Pistons.

Analysis

Ball was a late addition to the injury report and ultimately won't suit up for the first half of Charlotte's back-to-back set. Nick Smith (back) is also out, so KJ Simpson, Seth Curry, Elfrid Payton and Isaiah Wong should all handle increased roles in the backcourt. Ball will likely return to action Monday in Brooklyn and can be considered probable until the team releases an official injury report.

February 9, 2025

Downgraded to questionable

Ball (ankle) has been downgraded to questionable for Sunday's game against the Pistons.

Analysis

After initially being left off the injury report, Ball is now questionable for Sunday, the first night of a back-to-back set. The point guard will likely miss at least one of the next two games, but it's unclear which one it'll be. When he's sidelined, KJ Simpson, Elfrid Payton and Isaiah Wong would be candidates for increased roles.

Double-doubles in return

Ball recorded 24 points (9-26 FG, 4-11 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds and 10 assists across 36 minutes during Friday's 117-116 win over San Antonio.

Analysis

Ball returned to the lineup after missing the previous five games due to an ankle injury. He moved straight back into the starting lineup, recording his seventh double-double of the season. The fact he logged a team-high 36 minutes would indicate he is over his most recent injury, a good sign for his immediate playing future. As long as he can stay healthy, Ball should continue to facilitate the offense while also leading the way when it comes to shot attempts.

Playing Friday vs. San Antonio

Ball (ankle) is available for Friday's game against the Spurs.

Analysis

Ball has missed the Hornets' last five games due to a left ankle sprain, but he's progressed enough in his recovery to play in Friday's contest. Ball's return to the starting lineup will likely lead to KJ Simpson coming off the bench. Ball averaged 23.4 points, 7.0 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals over 32.2 minutes per game in the nine games prior to his ankle injury.

February 6, 2025

Questionable Friday

Ball (ankle) has been listed as questionable for Friday's game against the Spurs.

Analysis

Ball has missed the Hornets' last five games after suffering an ankle sprain in their recent loss to the Lakers. If the star guard can't play against San Antonio, the team could turn to KJ Simpson, Isaiah Wong, Seth Curry, and Nick Smith to help shoulder the load in Charlotte's backcourt.
