Won't report to Wizards
Wizards' GM Will Darkins said Sunday he won't ask Russell to report to the team "until we try to figure out what's best for him and us in our future," Henry J. Brown of SI reports.
Analysis
It sounds like Russell will not be a part of the team in D.C., and this situation could be headed towards a buyout. Russell fell out of the rotation in Dallas and became a throw-in player in the Anthony Davis deal, but there doesn't appear to be much of a market for the veteran point guard.

Out again Sunday
Russell (not with team) is out for Sunday's game against the Nets.
Analysis
Russell has yet to join the Wizards since being acquired from Dallas on Wednesday. It remains to be seen if he will carve out a role in Washington.

Listed out for Saturday
Russell (recently traded) is out for Saturday's game against the Nets.
Analysis
Wednesday's Anthony Davis (finger) trade is still pending, which means Russell isn't ready to make his Wizards debut. His next chance to do so comes Sunday against Miami.

Won't go Thursday
Russell (illness/recently traded) won't play Thursday against the Pistons.
Analysis
Russell was traded from the Mavs to the Wizards on Wednesday, but the trade isn't yet official. He'll need to wait at least until Saturday against Brooklyn to make his Washington debut.

Traded to Wizards
The Mavericks traded Russell (illness) to the Wizards on Wednesday, ESPN's Shams Charania reports. Anthony Davis (finger), Jaden Hardy and Dante Exum (knee) were also sent to the Wizards for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley, two first-round picks and three second-round picks.
Analysis
Russell fell out of Dallas' rotation and hasn't seen the floor since Jan. 10, so the writing has been on the wall. He joins a Washington squad that has two promising point guards in Tre Johnson (ankle) and Bub Carrington, while Trae Young (knee) remains without a timetable to return. From a fantasy perspective, a change of scenery can only help Russell, but it's hard to get excited about this landing spot for the veteran. He can be considered doubtful to debut Thursday against the Pistons.

Unavailable Tuesday
Russell (illness) is out for Tuesday's game against the Celtics, Eddie Sefko of the Mavericks' official site reports.
Analysis
Russell has been downgraded to out after falling ill. His absence shouldn't have much of an impact on the Mavericks' rotation Tuesday evening.
February 3, 2026
Doubtful for Tuesday
Russell (illness) is now doubtful for Tuesday's game versus Boston.
Analysis
This news is unlikely to have a major impact in fantasy hoops, as Russell hasn't seen rotation minutes for Dallas since Jan. 10. He'll be a name to watch at the trade deadline.
February 3, 2026
Iffy for Tuesday
Russell (illness) is questionable for Tuesday's game versus Boston.
Analysis
Despite being active, Russell hasn't seen the floor since Jan. 10, so his status is irrelevant for fantasy hoops. He'll be a name to watch at the trade deadline.
