Analysis

Questionable with illness
Thompson is questionable for Wednesday's game against Orlando due to an illness.
Analysis
Thompson is in danger of missing his first game of the season. The 2023 first-rounder's status could hinge on how he feels after Wednesday's pregame warmups. With Caris LeVert battling a hamstring injury, Javonte Green and Ronald Holland could be candidates for an amplified role against the Magic.

Double-double against Boston
Thompson ended Sunday's 119-113 win over the Celtics with 21 points (7-16 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 7-8 FT), 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals in 36 minutes.
Analysis
The third-year forward set early-season highs in points and boards in his first double-double of 2025-26. Thompson, the fifth overall pick in the 2023 Draft, could be poised to break out this season, and he's showing some surprising distribution skills so far, averaging 4.7 assists along with 17.0 points, 7.7 boards and 1.3 steals in 31.0 minutes through three games.

Drops 19 points in win
Thompson totaled 19 points (9-16 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 0-2 FT), two rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal across 24 minutes during Friday's 115-111 win over Houston.
Analysis
Thompson was limited to just 24 minutes due to early foul trouble, but still managed to deliver a full stat line. Early signs are good for Thompson, coming off a season in which he was eased into things following some health concerns. Anyone who managed to grab him in drafts has to be thrilled with his efforts thus far. Look for him to continue his strong start when the Pistons host the Celtics on Sunday.

Plays well in loss
Thompson posted 11 points (5-8 FG, 1-3 FT), nine rebounds, seven assists, one block and one steal in 33 minutes during Wednesday's 115-111 loss to the Bulls.
Analysis
The Pistons have been hyping up Thompson over the offseason, and if Wednesday was any indication, it's easy to see why. Thompson was given plenty of ball-handling responsibilities in addition to his role as Detroit's dynamo on the defensive end, and he nearly put up a triple-double as a result. And with Jaden Ivey (knee) sidelined for several weeks, it appears the Pistons are going to lean heavily on the third-year forward.
