Analysis
The Celtics opted to start Payton Pritchard on Wednesday, but Simons was still able to provide a spark off the bench in his Celtics debut. The two guards will likely be battling for Boston's top spot at point guard throughout the year, and Simons showed in the season opener that he is capable of being productive from the second unit.

Coming off bench to start season
Simons won't start Wednesday's regular-season opener against the 76ers, Justin Turpin of WEEI.com reports.
Analysis
Simons started only one preseason game, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. The Celtics will have many different starting lineups throughout the campaign, but their Opening Night first five will be Payton Pritchard, Derrick White, Sam Hauser, Jaylen Brown and Neemias Queta. Simons is still expected to have a large role off the bench.
