Goes yard again Wednesday
Gelof went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Rays.
Analysis
The 26-year-old infielder got hold of an eighth-inning sinker from Michael Grove and drove it over the left-field fence at Sutter Health Park. It was Gelof's 13th homer of the year, and his second in three games since coming off the IL after recovering from a knee injury that had sidelined him since July 9. It's been a tough year for the A's, but Gelof has put together a breakout campaign when he's been healthy, slashing .280/.331/.502 in 70 contests with eight steals, 32 RBI and 46 runs.

Analysis
Gelof missed a month due to a knee injury, and he wasted no time in making an impact with a pair of extra-base hits. He's had a decent campaign interrupted by a couple of injuries. On the year, he's batting .277 with an .823 OPS, 12 homers, 31 RBI, 43 runs scored, 12 doubles, one triple and eight stolen bases over 68 contests. Gelof looks poised for the lion's share of the playing time at third base, though Tommy White and Max Muncy will also be in the mix there as the Athletics' infield remains crowded.

The Athletics activated Gelof (knee) from the 10-day injured list Monday.
Analysis
Gelof is ready to roll after missing the past month of action with a right knee laceration. The 26-year-old was in the middle of a nice bounce-back season before getting hurt -- he was slashing .273/.327/.476 with 11 home runs in 67 games -- and should regain his role as the Athletics' primary third baseman.
