Clubs two solo homers

Diaz went 3-for-5 with two solo home runs in Friday's 14-8 win over the Tigers.

Analysis

Diaz set the tone with a leadoff home run in the first inning before tacking on another solo shot in the fifth to extend the Rays' lead to six runs. Diaz is in the midst of an 11-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in each of his last 15 games. He has a scorching .468 batting average (22-for-47) with 10 runs scored, four home runs and 10 RBI during his current hitting streak.

Picking up rest Sunday

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Analysis

Diaz appeared to be in some discomfort after a slide into home plate Saturday, but he didn't exit the game and manager Kevin Cash said that the 33-year-old is "totally available" off the bench Sunday, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Diaz's absence looks to be little more than a pre-planned rest day after he had started each of the Rays' last seven games. He's been on a heater of late, slashing .408/.473/.673 with three home runs, 10 RBI and nine runs in 12 games dating back to May 31.
