Bullpen session slated for Thursday
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that Megill (elbow) has been playing catch and has a bullpen session scheduled for Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Megill landed on the 15-day injured list last Wednesday with a Grade 1 right flexor strain, but he's aiming for a minimum-length stay on the IL and appears to be tracking toward achieving that goal. The reliever will be eligible for activation Sept. 9. Abner Uribe has been filling in as the Brewers' closer since Megill was placed on the shelf.

Aiming for brief IL stay
Megill (elbow), who was placed on the 15-day injured list earlier Wednesday, said that he's been diagnosed with a Grade 1 flexor tendon strain following an MRI and is hoping to be activated around when he's first eligible Sept. 9, Sophia Minnaert of FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin reports. "My intentions are to be off on 15 [days], and I'm gonna do everything in my power to make that happen," Megill said.
Analysis
Megill noted that his elbow felt off following his most recent appearance against the Giants on Sunday, when he needed 34 pitches to record three outs en route to suffering his third blown save in as many chances. Though elbow-related injuries are especially concerning for pitchers like Megill who are reliant on high velocity, the 31-year-old was encouraged by the results of his imaging and said that the flexor tendon strain isn't as serious as ones that he's dealt with in the past. He's hopeful that after a few days of rest, he'll be able to resume throwing again, at which point the Brewers should have a better idea whether a return in the minimum 15 days is realistic. Abner Uribe converted the Brewers' last save chance in Monday's win over the Diamondbacks and is likely to take over as Milwaukee's closer while Megill is shelved.

Shut down with flexor strain
The Brewers placed Megill on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a right elbow flexor strain.
Analysis
Though Milwaukee hadn't indicated that Megill was nursing an injury, he hadn't been especially sharp in his recent outings. Over his last four appearances spanning four innings, Megill backdoored his way into two wins but blew three of four save chances while allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks across four innings. Abner Uribe has turned in a spotless ERA since the All-Star break and is likely the next man up for saves in the absence of Megill, whose timeline for a return won't become clear until the Brewers shed more light on the severity of his injury. Even if Megill's elbow strain is deemed mild, however, the righty could still be at risk of being shelved beyond the minimum 15 days.
