Taking seat Thursday

Hernandez is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Colorado, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Analysis

Hernandez blasted his 21st home run of the season in Wednesday's loss and has gone deep three times across his last six contests, but he'll receive a scheduled day off Thursday. Alex Call will start in right field and bat eighth for the Dodgers in the series finale.

Clubs homer in loss

Hernandez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday in a loss to the Rockies.

Analysis

The Dodgers were held scoreless through five frames before Hernandez broke the seal on the offense with a solo shot in the sixth. The long ball was his third over his past six games and his 21st of the season. Hernandez's .757 OPS on the campaign is well below the .840 mark he posted during the regular season last year, but the veteran outfielder does rank in the top 20 leaguewide with 75 RBI.

Reaches 20-homer mark in win

Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Padres.

Analysis

Hernandez has gone deep in consecutive games and now has 20 long balls on the year. It's a threshold he's reached in seven of the last eight years, with the lone exception being the abbreviated 2020 season, when he hit 16 homers in 50 games for Toronto. The outfielder has been steady in August, going 12-for-46 (.261) over 12 games this month. He's at a .255/.287/.472 slash line over 100 contests this season.

Goes deep in win

Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 win over the Padres.

Analysis

Hernandez's seventh-inning homer ended up being the difference in this battle between NL West rivals. The outfielder has hit fairly well in August, going 11-for-43 (.256) with three homers and eight RBI over 11 contests, though he's also racked up 17 strikeouts so far this month. Overall, he's up to 19 homers, 72 RBI and a .754 OPS through 99 games this season.
