Taking seat Sunday

Devers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Milwaukee, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Analysis

Devers will get his first day off since being acquired by the Giants in mid-June, after he turned in a .227/.337/.412 slash line with 10 home runs in his first 58 games for San Francisco. Wilmer Flores will serve as the designated hitter Sunday while Dominic Smith starts at first base.

Smashes 25th homer in loss

Devers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Padres.

Analysis

That's now six homers during the month for Devers, who also clubbed his 25th of the year Thursday. Devers closed the month of July on a 0-for-14 dry spell at the plate, but he's been far more productive so far in August. Over his last 72 at-bats, the star corner infielder is hitting .250 with two doubles, 10 RBI, 10 runs scored and 11 walks.

The 28-year-old is up to 24 long balls, 82 RBI, 70 runs scored, one stolen base and 28 doubles while maintaining a .257/.377/.469 slash line through 126 contests between the Giants and the Red Sox this season.
