Heading to bench Sunday
Castellanos is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
Analysis
Castellanos will head to the bench for the series finale after he started in each of the Padres' last five games while going 2-for-16 with a solo home run, a walk and and an additional run. With Castellanos taking a seat, the Padres will make room in the lineup for Ty France at first base while Gavin Sheets and Ramon Laureano occupy the corner-outfield positions.

Belts homer Friday
Castellanos went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-3 win over the Athletics.
Analysis
Castellanos went yard in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3. He has gone 6-for-28 (.214) over his last eight games, adding two homers and six RBI, though he's also racked up nine strikeouts without a walk in that span. The veteran outfielder is batting .198 with a .592 OPS, four homers, 19 RBI, eight runs scored, five doubles and a stolen base over 106 plate appearances. His playing time is trending up, but Castellanos could lose some playing time once Jake Cronenworth (concussion) returns, which would likely force Fernando Tatis back to the outfield. However, Cronenworth's return is not imminent.

Gaining foothold in lineup
Castellanos will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.
Analysis
With Fernando Tatis seeing the bulk of his playing time at second base of late in the absence of Jake Cronenworth (concussion), Castellanos has begun to seize control of a near-everyday role in the corner outfield. The Padres will include him in the lineup Wednesday for the seventh time in nine games.
