On track to make next start
Roupp (back) threw a bullpen session Thursday and is on track to make his next scheduled start Saturday against the Cubs, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis
Roupp pitched through back discomfort in his last outing Monday in Milwaukee, but at this point it does not appear it will cause him to miss a turn in the rotation. The right-hander has accumulated a 4.22 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 72:27 K:BB over 64 innings covering 12 starts for the Giants this season.

Pitched through back discomfort
Roupp admitted Monday's 16-2 loss to Milwaukee that he pitched through back discomfort during his start, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Roupp was charged with eight runs on eight hits and five walks and needed 96 pitches to cover his four innings. The righty's velocity dipped significantly during the start, going from 95 mph to 90.8 mph in the fourth inning. Roupp said the back issue is "definitely less serious" than the one that cost him three months of the minor-league season in 2023, and he thinks he'll be "fine." The 27-year-old is lined up to take on the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Saturday in his next outing, but he'll need to get through a between-starts bullpen session first before being cleared to pitch in Chicago.

Roupp (5-6) took the loss Monday against the Brewers, allowing eight runs on eight hits and five walks in four innings. He struck out four.
Analysis
The second inning was a disastrous one for Roupp, who was clobbered for seven of his season-worst eight earned runs on the evening. Only half of his 96 pitches landed for strikes Monday, and the 27-year-old right-hander also tied a season high in walks allowed. Roupp will be trying to put Monday's dud in the rear-view mirror his next time out against the Cubs in Chicago, where he'll take a 4.22 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 72:27 K:BB over 64 innings.
