Taking seat against southpaw

Manzardo isn't in the Guardians' starting lineup Saturday versus the Tigers.

Analysis

Manzardo will begin on the bench for the second time in Cleveland's past three games -- both against southpaw starters. He regularly sits against lefty hurlers, though his .885 OPS versus southpaws is significantly higher than his .674 OPS against righties. Regardless, Rhys Hoskins is starting at first base and Jose Ramirez is getting a turn at DH on Saturday against Detroit ace Tarik Skubal.

Manzardo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Analysis

The Guardians will roll out a right-handed-heavy lineup to counter Yankees southpaw Carlos Rodon in the series finale, so Manzardo will take a seat Wednesday along with fellow lefty hitters Chase DeLauter and Steven Kwan. Cleveland will go with Rhys Hoskins at first base in Manzardo's stead.
