Stifles Tigers for second win

Quintana (2-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's 5-1 victory over Detroit, allowing one run on four hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out four.

Analysis

The veteran southpaw couldn't match the seven scoreless innings he tossed in his season debut, but Quintana was still sharp in his second outing of 2025. He tossed 58 of 100 pitches for strikes, including 20 called strikes as he kept Tigers hitters guessing. Quintana will take a 0.71 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 6:3 K:BB through his first 12.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road early next week in San Francisco.

Dazzles in Milwaukee debut

Quintana (1-0) picked up the win Friday, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings in a 7-0 victory over the Diamondbacks. He struck out two without walking a batter.

Analysis

The veteran southpaw tossed 50 of 80 pitches for strikes in his 2025 debut after signing a one-year deal with the Brewers in early March and needing some extra time to get ramped up, and he didn't allow a runner to get past first base until his final inning of work. Quintana is coming off a strong campaign with the Mets, posting a 3.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 135:63 K:BB through 170.1 regular-season frames in 2024, and he appears ready to help stabilize Milwaukee's injury-ravaged rotation. He lines up to make his next start at home next week against the Tigers.

Recalled, starting Friday

Quintana will start against the Diamondbacks on Friday after being recalled by Milwaukee from the Rookie ACL Brewers, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Analysis

Quintana spent much of the offseason as a free agent, but he signed a one-year deal with the Brewers in early March and opted to start the year in the minors to get stretched out. With multiple Milwaukee starters on the injured list, Quintana will get the call-up Friday and make his first appearance in a Brewers uniform, though it's uncertain what type of workload he will handle in his debut. The veteran southpaw went 10-10 across 31 regular-season starts for the Mets in 2024, posting a 3.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 135:63 K:BB across 170.1 innings.
