Two runs in return to lineup
Mateo (thumb) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Dodgers.
Analysis
Mateo was in the lineup for the first time since Tuesday, as he missed the last two games due to a jammed thumb. He appeared in both of those contests as a pinch runner. Now presumably healthy after playing all nine innings Saturday, Mateo figures to regain a short-term starting role at shortstop until Ha-Seong Kim (finger) is ready to return from his rehab assignment, though Mauricio Dubon could also see some action there. Mateo has played well so far this season, batting .288 with a .757 OPS, two home runs, five RBI, 14 runs scored and four stolen bases over 54 plate appearances.

Nursing jammed thumb
Mateo was held out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners while he nurses a jammed thumb, Lindsay Crosby of BravesToday.com reports.
Analysis
The injury looks to be minor, but it was enough that Atlanta felt compelled to call up Jim Jarvis from Triple-A Gwinnett to make his MLB debut at shortstop Wednesday. Atlanta is idle Thursday, so Mateo will receive at least a couple days of rest. Mateo had started six straight games before being left out of the lineup Wednesday.

Heading to bench Wednesday
Mateo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.
Analysis
After a six-game run as Atlanta's starting shortstop, Mateo will cede the position to Jim Jarvis in the latter's MLB debut. With Mauricio Dubon seeing more time in the outfield of late in the wake of Ronald Acuna's (hamstring) recent move to the injured list, Mateo could continue to see the bulk of the playing time at shortstop in the short term. Mateo is likely to pivot into more of a utility role once Ha-Seong Kim (finger) is back from the IL, however.

Swipes fourth bag
Mateo went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Monday's loss to the Mariners.
Analysis
Making his fifth straight start at shortstop while Mauricio Dubon is needed in the outfield, Mateo swiped a bag for the second straight game, giving him four on the season in five attempts. The veteran utility player figures to see consistent playing time at least as long as Ronald Acuna (hamstring) and Michael Harris (quadriceps) are both sidelined, and Mateo's taken advantage of his opportunities so far this season, slashing .289/.319/.467 through 47 plate appearances with two doubles, two homers, five RBI and 12 runs in addition to his activity on the basepaths.

Slugs homer Sunday
Mateo went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and a stolen base in Sunday's 11-6 win over Colorado.
Analysis
Mateo drew his fourth straight start at shortstop and delivered with his second homer of the season, a two-run blast off Kyle Freeland in the second inning to go back-to-back with Jonah Heim. Mateo has generally been effective when called upon in 2026, as the veteran speedster is hitting .286/.318/.476 with two homers, two doubles, five RBI, 12 runs and three steals across 44 plate appearances.
