Exits early Sunday
Taillon was removed from his start in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Angels in the fifth inning due to left groin tightness, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Taillon ended up picking up his second straight win to improve his record to 9-6, and he tossed five innings of one-run ball while striking out three batters and allowing three hits and no walks. After the game, Taillon referred to the injury as a "small cramp" in his left groin, per Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com, and manager Craig Counsell added that the right-hander's removal from the game was precautionary. Taillon can be considered day-to-day for the time being, but assuming he's able to make it through his between-starts bullpen session without issue, he'll likely return to the hill Saturday in Colorado.

Sharp in return
Taillon (8-6) picked up the win in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Brewers, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out four.
Analysis
Making his first start since July 29 after recovering from a calf strain, Taillon delivered his 11th quality start of the season on 92 pitches (56 strikes), with Milwaukee's only offense off him coming in the first inning thanks to two singles and a walk. The right-hander hadn't been able to complete five innings in any of his last three starts before landing on the IL, so the time off appears to have served him well. Taillon will take a 4.26 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 78:21 K:BB over 101.1 innings on the season into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend against the Angels.

Activated for Game 2 start
The Cubs reinstated Taillon (calf) from the 15-day injured list to start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers.
Analysis
The right-hander was poised to return Monday before Game 2 of that doubleheader was postponed by a day, and he's now officially back on the active roster to make his first MLB start since June 29. Taillon surrendered 15 runs while losing his last three starts before landing on the injured list, but prior to that stretch he had a 3.48 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 65:16 K:BB over 82.2 innings this year. The 33-year-old threw 84 pitches over 5.1 frames in his final rehab outing, so he shouldn't have significant workload limitations.

Return bumped to Tuesday
Taillon (calf) won't be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Brewers after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Taillon was on track to make his first start since June 29 after missing time with a right calf strain, but he'll need to wait one more day after Wrigley Field experienced heavy rain right before first pitch. The twin bill will now take place Tuesday, and Taillon is listed as the probable pitcher to toe the rubber for Game 2, per Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com.
