Hit hard by Cubs in return
Marquez (3-12) took the loss Friday against the Cubs, allowing eight runs on nine hits and three walks in 4.1 innings. He failed to record a strikeout.
Analysis
Marquez was far from sharp in his first major-league start since July 20, surrendering at least five runs for the eighth time this season. It was the first instance of the year that the veteran right-hander came away with no strikeouts, and he's now walked at least three in four of his past five outings dating back to June 29. Marquez has a miserable 5.87 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 73:38 K:BB across 102.2 frames, so he likely won't be a recommended fantasy option at hitter-friendly Coors Field against the division-rival Giants next week.

Officially activated
The Rockies reinstated Marquez (biceps) from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis
Marquez will return from nearly a five-week absence due to right biceps tendinitis. The veteran right-hander worked up to 76 pitches in his last minor-league rehab start, and he should be cleared to handle a full workload. Marquez has a better ERA at Coors Field (5.31) than he does on the road (5.95) this season.

Returning from IL on Friday
The Rockies will activate Marquez (biceps) from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Cubs at Coors Field, MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Marquez has been on the shelf since July 23 due to right biceps tendinitis, but he was cleared to rejoin the Colorado rotation after he completed a bullpen session Wednesday without incident. Before linking back up with the Rockies this week, Marquez completed two rehab starts for Triple-A Albuquerque. He most recently pitched for Albuquerque on Sunday, striking out seven and allowing two earned runs on five hits and one walk over 4.1 innings (76 pitches). To make room for Marquez in the rotation, Colorado moved Antonio Senzatela to the bullpen earlier this week.
