Back from IL
The Red Sox reinstated Whitlock (knee) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis
The right-hander has been dealing with knee inflammation for the past couple weeks but is ready to rejoin the big-league roster after a short stay on the shelf. Whitlock has been filling a high-leverage relief role for Boston this season and should reclaim that role now that he's healthy. He's posted a 3.20 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB across 19.2 innings with a 3-1 record and 10 holds in 20 appearances.

Expected to rejoin team Tuesday
Whitlock (knee) is likely to be activated from the 15-day injured list Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Whitlock struck out a batter and allowed one hit and two walks over a scoreless inning during a rehab appearance with Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, and that will apparently be the only outing the right-hander will require in the minors prior to being activated. He'll rejoin the Red Sox in Tampa ahead of the second contest of their three-game set at Tropicana Field.

Ready for rehab assignment
Whitlock (knee) will embark on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis
Whitlock is ready to take the next step in his recovery from left knee inflammation that led to him being placed on the 15-day injured list in late May. Red Sox manager Chad Tracy relayed that how Whitlock's knee reacts following Saturday's Triple-A game will determine whether the right-hander will need just one rehab outing before being activated from the IL.
