Headed to San Diego
The Royals traded Fermin to the Padres on Thursday in exchange for Ryan Bergert and Stephen Kolek, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis
Fermin has slashed .255/.309/.339 with three homers, 12 RBI and 17 runs scored across 208 plate appearances with the Royals this season. While those numbers don't exactly jump off the page, they're still good enough to make him the frontrunner for starts behind the plate in San Diego over Elias Diaz (.577 OPS) and Martin Maldonado (.572 OPS).

Resting up Sunday
Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis
Fermin had started three of the Royals' previous four games, but he'll get a breather while Salvador Perez covers first base and Luke Maile gets a turn behind the plate. Though the Royals recently bolstered their lineup with the acquisition of Randal Grichuk, the absence of Jac Caglianone (hamstring) should allow Fermin's playing time to remain relatively stable while Perez continues to see more starts at first base or designated hitter.

Lifts third homer
Fermin went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 6-4 loss to the Guardians in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Analysis
Fermin went 0-for-1 as a pinch hitter in the day game before spelling Salvador Perez behind the dish in the nightcap. While Fermin has carved out a decent share of playing time in July, he has gone just 4-for-23 (.174) with seven strikeouts over his last 10 games. Overall, the catcher is slashing .262/.315/.350 with three homers, 10 RBI, 16 runs scored, seven doubles and no stolen bases across 198 plate appearances this year.
