Posts much-needed save
Diaz earned a save against the Royals on Monday, striking out one batter over one scoreless inning.
Analysis
Diaz entered Monday having blown both of his save chances and allowing four runs over two innings across his past three outings. Manager Dave Roberts continued to stick with him, and the veteran closer came through with a clean inning on 12 pitches (eight strikes). It was just the third time through 13 appearances with Los Angeles that Diaz has completed an outing without allowing any hits or walks. He's posted just six saves in nine chances while compiling an ugly 9.82 ERA and 2.27 WHIP over 13 appearances, but the Dodgers seem intent on allowing their prized free-agent acquisition to work through his struggles.

Backs into win
Diaz (2-1) allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out one over one inning to take a blown save while earning the win in Saturday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Diamondbacks.
Analysis
Diaz was able to keep the ball in the yard this time, but he allowed back-to-back triples to Geraldo Perdomo and Corbin Carroll to yield the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Dodgers retook the lead in the 10th, and Jack Dreyer converted the save to give Diaz the win. At this point, it's getting tough to have any confidence in Diaz -- he's blown consecutive save chances and has been scored upon in four of five outings since returning from elbow surgery. Manager Dave Roberts hasn't given any indication of a change to the closer role yet, but it's safe to assume Diaz won't be asked to pitch a third straight day should a save chance arise Sunday.

Falters against Arizona
Diaz (1-1) allowed two runs on one hit and one walk while logging one strikeout over one-third of an inning to take the loss and a blown save Friday versus the Diamondbacks.
Analysis
Diaz walked Max Kepler and then served up a walk-off blast to Ryan Waldschmidt two batters later. Across three innings since he returned from an elbow injury, Diaz has allowed four runs with a 4:2 K:BB, converting one of his two save chances. His closer job isn't in doubt yet, but the seat is likely getting hot, especially given the quality performances of many other members of the Dodgers' bullpen. Diaz is carrying an 11.00 ERA while converting five of seven save chances over his nine innings this season.
