Homers twice, steals base in win

Mullins went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI, a stolen base and a walk in Tuesday's 5-3 win against the Red Sox.

Analysis

The Orioles center fielder opened the game's scoring when he cracked a 334-foot solo shot to right around Pesky's Pole in the first inning. Mullins then returned to slug another homer, this one going 407 feet and being of the two-run variety, off starting pitcher Kutter Crawford in his next at-bat. Mullins has caught fire in September, as he's hitting .400 (12-for-30) with four homers, two steals, seven runs scored and nine RBI across nine games so far this month.

Moving up to two hole Monday

Mullins will start in center field and bat second in Monday's game in Boston, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Analysis

Mullins hadn't previously batted higher than fifth all season and that came back in April. The center fielder is 10-for-24 with a couple home runs so far in September and the Orioles want to see if he can spark them from higher in the batting order with his hot bat. Typical No. 2 hitter Adley Rutschman will hit fifth Monday.

Provides lone run in loss

Mullins went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-1 loss to the Rays.

Analysis

Mullins remains dialed in at the plate -- he's 10-for-24 (.417) over his last eight games, adding two homers, six RBI and two stolen bases in that span. His long ball Saturday was the Orioles' lone extra-base hit in the contest. The outfielder is up to a .232/.301/.405 slash line with 15 homers, 47 RBI, 59 runs scored and 26 steals through 130 contests. His OPS is over .700 for the first time since April 30.

Gets aboard three times in loss

Mullins went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-1 loss to the White Sox.

Analysis

Mullins has gone 9-for-21 (.429) with two steals, a home run and five RBI during his six-game hitting streak. The outfielder has stolen seven bases over his last 18 games, giving him 26 thefts on the year and putting him within striking distance of his third 30-steal campaign in four years. He's added a .231/.298/.398 slash line with 14 home runs, 46 RBI and 58 runs scored through 128 contests, but he's trending in the right direction after serving as a platoon player for much of the year.
