Resting up Sunday

Wells is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

Analysis

Wells will retreat to the bench during Sunday's day game, enabling Ben Rice to pick up a start behind the plate. The 25-year-old backstop has cooled down considerably at the dish of late, going just 5-for-33 (.152 average) with a 27.8 percent strikeout rate over his last 10 games.

Not in Friday's lineup

Wells is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

Analysis

Wells started the previous four games and will receive a rest day after going 3-for-16 with a walk, a double and an RBI during that stretch. Ben Rice will start behind the plate with J.C. Escarra (paternity) away from the team for a few days.
