Out through All-Star break

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Sunday that Rutschman's left oblique strain is considered mild, but the catcher is still expected to remain on the 10-day injured list through the All-Star break, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Analysis

He was held out of the lineup for the first two games of this weekend's series versus the Yankee due to what was initially described as abdominal tightness, and Rutschman was placed on the IL on Saturday when an MRI confirmed an oblique strain. Even though the backstop's injury is seemingly just a Grade 1 strain, the Orioles won't rush him back early and will give him at least four weeks to recover. Gary Sanchez is expected to serve as Baltimore's primary backstop while Rutschman is on the shelf.

On IL with oblique strain

The Orioles placed Rutschman on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a strained left oblique.

Analysis

The Orioles kept Rutschman on the bench for Friday and Saturday's games while he tended to what the team labeled as left abdominal soreness. However, an MRI revealed that Rutschman is dealing with a strained oblique, so he'll now hit the IL for an indefinite period of time. Maverick Handley was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move, though Gary Sanchez should handle most of the catching duties while Rutschman is sidelined.

Out again Saturday

Rutschman (abdomen) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Analysis

Rutschman was a late scratch from Friday's lineup due to abdominal tightness, and he'll sit out a second consecutive game while he continues to recover. Gary Sanchez will start behind the plate and bat seventh. Per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, Rutschman underwent an MRI on Saturday.

Scratched Friday

Rutschman was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees due to left abdominal tightness, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Analysis

Initially slated to DH and bat second, Rutschman has been removed from Friday's starting nine. He can be considered day-to-day due to the abdominal injury. Jackson Holliday will now DH and bat leadoff.

Sitting Wednesday

Rutschman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Analysis

Rutschman will take a seat after going 2-for-9 with a solo home run over the first two games of the series. Gary Sanchez will start behind the plate Wednesday.

Hits homer in loss

Rutschman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Monday's 7-1 loss to the Rays.

Analysis

Rutschman hit his seventh home run of the season, his first in nine games, to account for the only Orioles run of the game. The pop from the 27-year-old's bat has been largely missing as of late; he has just four extra-base hits in his last 19 games. The catcher is slashing .233/.325/.384 in 235 at-bats, with his .708 OPS more closely resembling his .709 mark from 2024 than the first two seasons of his career in which he was over .800.
