Back from paternity leave
The Red Sox reinstated Lowe from the paternity list Saturday.
Analisi
Lowe is back with Boston after taking two days off while on paternity leave. However, he's not starting Saturday, as Romy Gonzalez is manning first base against Pittsburgh. To make room for Lowe on the active roster, the Red Sox optioned Nick Sogard to Triple-A Worcester.

The Red Sox placed Lowe (personal) on the paternity list Thursday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analisi
While he welcomes a new child, Lowe will be away from the Red Sox for between one and three days, so he should be back with the team no later than Sunday's game against the Pirates. Lowe had been occupying the strong side of a platoon at first base, but Romy Gonzalez could be in store for more opportunities against right-handed pitching in the short term while Lowe is away.

Lowe will be permitted to miss up to three games while he spends time with his growing family. Rob Refsnyder (oblique) is expected to be activated off the injured list in a corresponding move to take Lowe's place on the 26-man roster. Meanwhile, Romy Gonzalez will likely benefit from a few extra starts at first base.

Lowe has gotten off to an excellent start to his time with the Red Sox by batting 5-for-14 with a home run, two doubles, two walks, five RBI and three runs through his first four games, but the Red Sox aren't yet ready to expose the left-handed-hitting first baseman to lefty pitching. For the second straight matchup against a lefty starter (Carlos Rodon), Lowe will cede first base to the right-handed-hitting Romy Gonzalez.

Lowe went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 12-1 win over the Yankees.
