Debuts in left field
Gurriel started in left field and went 0-for-4 in Saturday's 6-2 win over Toronto.
Analisi
Gurriel made his season debut and return from ACL surgery. It was also significant that he played left field, as manager Torey Lovullo earlier suggested that Gurriel would be given a slow buildup as the designated hitter. With Jordan Lawlar (wrist) out until at least early June, however, Arizona's roster needs have changed since then.

Officially activated
The Diamondbacks reinstated Gurriel (knee) from the injured list Saturday.
Analisi
Just seven months after undergoing ACL repair surgery in September, Gurriel will return from the injured list to make his season debut against the Blue Jays. He will likely be limited to DH duties to begin with but is expected to eventually return to his normal place in left field. Luken Baker was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Returning Saturday
Gurriel (knee) is expected to return from the injured list Saturday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Analisi
After undergoing surgery in September to repair an ACL tear in his right knee, Gurriel began playing in rehab games at Triple-A Reno on Wednesday and has already been given the green light to make his MLB season debut. He will eventually take over as Arizona's primary left fielder, though Gurriel is expected to be limited to DH duties initially upon his return to the Diamondbacks.

Kicking off rehab assignment
Gurriel (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Amarillo on Wednesday, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
Analisi
Gurriel has been playing in extended spring training action and is ready to test things out in an official game setting. Working his way back from surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, Gurriel will play seven innings for Amarillo in his first game and build up from there. He is expected to be limited to designated-hitter duties initially upon his return to the Diamondbacks.
