Viewed as starter
Lauer is expected to start games for the Dodgers, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.
Analisi
Lauer was dealt from the Blue Jays to the Dodgers on Sunday for cash considerations, and while it initially sounded as though his new club would deploy him out of the bullpen, general manager Brandon Gomes clarified Monday that the team intends to utilize him in a starting role as part of a six-man rotation. It's not yet clear when the southpaw will make his first start for LA, as he'll presumably be given a few days to get acclimated, but Katie Woo of The Athletic notes that Lauer could enter the rotation at some point after the road trip.

Expected to be used out of bullpen
Lauer is expected to be used primarily as a relief pitcher with the Dodgers, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Analisi
Lauer will join Los Angeles after posting an inflated 6.69 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 36.1 innings in eight appearances, including six starts, with Toronto this year. The 30-year-old will be used as a reliever/swingman according to new manager Dave Roberts, likely setting him up for an occasional start. With Blake Snell (elbow) set to be sidelined for multiple months, Lauer will give the Dodgers a new left-handed option on the mound moving forward.

Shipped to LAD
The Dodgers acquired Lauer from the Blue Jays on Sunday in exchange for cash considerations.
Analisi
The veteran left-hander was designated for assignment by Toronto on Monday but was able to land with the reigning World Series champions. Lauer has struggled to a 6.69 ERA across 36.1 innings this year, but he was a key piece for the Blue Jays in 2025 with a 3.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 102:26 K:BB in 28 regular-season appearances (15 starts). He'll provide Los Angeles with some much-needed rotation depth as Tyler Glasnow (back) and Blake Snell (elbow) are on the injured list.
