Just like it happened Friday against the Jazz, the Thunder will rest the majority of their regular rotation members for this regular-season finale after securing not only the top seed in the Western Conference, but also the best record in the league. Gilgeous-Alexander's impressive season comes to an end with an MVP-level stat line, as he averaged 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 51.9 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from three-point range. He seems to be a lock to be among the finalists for the MVP award given how instrumental he was for the Thunder's record-breaking season.

Gilgeous-Alexander will miss his second straight matchup and is officially listed as out with a shin contusion, though it would seem his team is making sure the star guard is getting plenty of rest heading into the postseason. Adam Flagler and Ajay Mitchell should be in line for plenty of opportunities Friday in Gilgeous-Alexander's absence.

Gilgeous-Alexander logged 42 points (14-26 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 9-11 FT), six rebounds, six assists and one block in 37 minutes during Tuesday's 136-120 win over the Lakers, and now he'll be held out for injury maintenance on the second leg of this back-to-back set. That shouldn't come as any surprise, however, as the Thunder locked up the No. 1 seed a while ago. Alex Caruso, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins could be asked to soak up the backcourt minutes in his absence.

Gilgeous-Alexander scored at least 40 points for the 13th time this season. The MVP front-runner's points per game average of 32.7 leads the entire NBA, and he is showing no signs of slowing down. Since the beginning of 2025, Gilgeous-Alexander has posted 51.2/40.0/90.4 shooting splits across 44 appearances.

Analyse
The Thunder already have the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference locked up, so their motivation in this one may have leaned toward simply getting out of it healthy. Gilgeous-Alexander still produced strong numbers, as he extended his streak of appearances with 20-plus points to an incredible 71, the fourth-longest streak in NBA history behind only a pair of 80-game streaks by Wilt Chamberlain and a 76-game surge in 1963-64 by Oscar Robertson. Over 17 outings since the beginning of March, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 33.9 points, 7.3 assists, 4.3 boards, 2.2 threes, 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocks as he puts the finishing touches on his MVP case.
