Targeting return for next homestand
Soto (calf) could return for the start of the Mets' next homestand April 21, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
Analyse
New York won't rush its star outfielder back, but the organization seems confident that Soto's calf strain isn't a serious issue. The 27-year-old is currently swinging a bat and playing catch but hasn't yet resumed a running program. Once he does, a clearer timeline for his return should come into focus.

Not close to running program
Soto (calf) has been swinging a bat indoors and playing catch but is not close to being cleared for a running program, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Analyse
Soto suffered a right calf strain less than a week ago, so it's not terribly surprising he's not ready to test things out by running yet. The Mets believe Soto's injury is minor, though his stay on the injured list is expected to extend past the minimum 10 days. Mark Vientos has picked up extra playing time since Soto was injured.

Out 2-to-3 weeks with calf strain
The Mets placed Soto (calf) on the 10-day injured list Monday.
Analyse
Soto strained his right calf during Friday's 10-3 win over the Giants. The Mets gave him a couple days to recover in order to see if he made enough improvement to avoid an IL stint, but it didn't happen. According to the Mets, Soto's calf strain is viewed as minor and is expected to keep him out for 2-to-3 weeks. Jared Young has filled in for Soto in left field for the last two games and should continue to see increased reps. Brett Baty (thumb) and Tyrone Taylor are also candidates to see more playing time in the outfield.

Sitting again Sunday
Soto (calf) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Analyse
The veteran outfielder sat out of Saturday's contest after suffering a minor strain in his right calf Friday, and he'll sit for a second consecutive game Sunday. Soto will have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery and try to avoid an IL stint.
