Slugs 21st homer

Soto went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in a loss to the Reds on Thursday.

Analyse

Soto brought New York to within four runs with his two-run swat to center field in the seventh inning, but that was the final tally for either team. The All-Star outfielder is up 21 homers on the campaign, putting him on pace to surpass the career-high 35 long balls he hit last season. Soto has added 63 RBI, 70 runs, four steals and a .300/.438/.568 slash line through 385 plate appearances in his first season as a Yankee.

Surprise addition to lineup

Soto (hand) is starting in right field and batting second Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Analyse

The 25-year-old was originally slated to sit Sunday and said he may undergo an MRI or CT scan Monday when the Yankees are back in New York, so his late addition to the lineup is a major surprise. It's unclear if Soto will still require any of the medical imaging, but he's apparently feeling well enough to play despite experiencing some pain and weakness in his bruised right hand Saturday.

Out Sunday, set for tests on hand

Soto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game in Toronto and said that he may get an MRI or CT scan on his bruised right hand when the Yankees return to New York on Monday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Analyse

Though Soto will remain on the bench for a second straight game, he said that his hand feels better than it did Saturday, when he was scratched from the lineup ahead of the Yankees' 9-3 loss to the Blue Jays after experiencing pain and weakness while swinging the bat. He plans to swing again prior to Sunday's contest, perhaps indicating that the testing he's slated to undergo Monday will be mostly precautionary in nature. After Monday's off day, the Yankees will return to action with a three-game set against the Reds.

X-rays return negative

Soto's (hand) X-rays came back negative Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Analyse

Soto sustained a right hand contusion sliding into home during Friday's game and was scratched from the Yankees' lineup Saturday. With his X-rays coming back negative, it appears as though Soto has avoided structural damage and a long-term injury. With a team off day coming Monday, it wouldn't be surprising to see Soto sit again Sunday as a precaution. Oswaldo Cabrera started in right field Saturday.

Scratched from lineup

Soto was scratched from the Yankees' lineup ahead of Saturday's game versus Toronto due to a right hand contusion, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Analyse

Soto suffered the injury while sliding into home plate during the fourth inning of Friday's contest. He is slated to undergo imaging on his hand to see whether he's dealing with a more serious injury, and the Yankees should offer an update on his condition once they get the results back. In the meantime, Oswaldo Cabrera will enter the lineup as New York's right fielder and bat eighth.
