Starting Wednesday
Peterson will start Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports.
Analyse
The left-hander worked out of the bullpen in his past two appearances -- including one in bulk relief -- but will return to the rotation Wednesday after allowing just one run across seven innings as a reliever. It's been an up-and-down campaign for Peterson, who fired 5.1 scoreless frames in his season debut but followed up with an 8.79 ERA in his next three starts.

Will pitch Wednesday
Peterson is slated to pitch Wednesday versus the Nationals, either as a traditional starting pitcher or bulk reliever, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Analyse
Peterson has posted a 6.41 ERA in four starts this season, but he pitched better his last two times out. While working behind an opener this past Sunday against the Cubs and then pitching in long relief in Thursday's win over the Twins, Peterson covered seven innings and gave up one earned run on seven hits and one walk. The left-hander will likely be on a short leash Wednesday, but Peterson will be afforded another opportunity to restate his case for a rotation spot.

Working in bullpen this week
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that Peterson will have his turn in the rotation skipped this week and will work out of the bullpen, SNY.tv reports.
Analyse
While starting in each of his first four appearances of the season, Peterson struggled to a 6.41 ERA and 1.83 WHIP, but he delivered better results while working in bulk relief behind opener Tobias Myers in Sunday's loss to the Cubs, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings. Despite the strong showing out of the bullpen, Peterson's grasp on a full-time spot in the rotation still appears to be tenuous, and the Mets will skip his turn this week and instead call up Christian Scott from Triple-A Syracuse to serve as their fifth starter Thursday versus the Twins. The Mets haven't revealed their plans for the rotation beyond this week, but if Scott performs well in his 2026 big-league debut, it's possible that he sticks as a starter over Peterson moving forward.
