Ends skid with ninth win
Kelly (9-12) allowed two hits and four walks while striking out seven over seven scoreless innings to earn the win over the Giants in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader.

Kelly entered the game winless over his last six starts, giving up 22 runs (21 earned) over 31 innings in that span. There was some concern he had been tipping pitches in his previous outing against the Cubs, but if the Giants were able to steal signs, they weren't able to do much with that information Saturday. Control remains a concern for Kelly -- he's walked at least three batters in each of his last six games. He's at a 5.08 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 95:64 K:BB through 141.2 innings over 25 starts this season, making an effort like the one he had Saturday an anomoly. He's lined up to make his next start at Houston.

May have tipped pitches
Kelly and the Diamondbacks believe that Cubs third-base coach Quintin Berry was stealing pitches and relaying signs to hitters in Monday's 7-0 loss, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. "Stealing signs is as old as baseball, I think it's a little [expletive] when it comes from the coach," Kelly said.

While Kelly noted that he considers it fair game for players on the field to recognize tipped pitches, he acknowledged that he needs to review what he's doing to better conceal his offerings. The Cubs weren't the only team to get the better of Kelly of late; the right-hander is 0-4 with a 7.46 ERA and 1.82 WHIP across 25.1 innings over his five August starts.

The right-hander has now lost three straight games and is 0-4 with a 7.46 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 17:18 K:BB across 25.1 innings (five starts) in August. The 37-year-old will take an overall 5.35 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 88:60 K:BB across 134.2 innings (24 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the Giants.
