Working behind opener Sean Newcomb on Sunday, Fedde served as a bulk reliever and fired four shutout innings to stymie a hot Mets lineup. The veteran right-hander hasn't tossed five innings since his most recent traditional start, which was July 31 in Tampa Bay, so the lack of consistent length will inhibit his streaming appeal in fantasy leagues going forward. Through 118.1 innings (12 starts) this year, Fedde has a pedestrian 4.18 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 84:43 K:BB.

Primed for bulk-relief role Sunday
Fedde is expected to work in bulk relief Sunday against the Mets behind left-hander Sean Newcomb who is slated to start the game for the White Sox.

The last time the fifth spot in the rotation came up Tuesday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, the White Sox deployed Fedde out of the bullpen while Bryan Hudson worked the first inning of the contest. Fedde followed Hudson with a strong performance, striking out five batters across 4.2 scoreless frames while scattering three hits and two walks. Newcomb has maxed out at three innings on the season and should be capable of offering a little more length than Hudson to begin the game, but Fedde remains the White Sox pitcher most likely to qualify for a win Sunday.

Fedde worked in bulk relief behind opener Bryan Hudson, who allowed two runs in the first inning. This was an encouraging performance for Fedde, though he threw just 45 of 78 pitches for strikes. The veteran right-hander has a 4.33 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 82:42 K:BB through 114.1 innings over 27 games (12 starts) this season. Fedde's role moving forward isn't entirely clear, but he should get at least one more turn through the rotation, either as a starter or bulk reliever at home against the Mets over the weekend.

Could work in bulk relief Tuesday
Fedde could be a candidate to pitch in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Bryan Hudson in Tuesday's game against the Cubs, Noah Phalen of SouthsideShowdown.com reports.

The White Sox moved Fedde to the bullpen in the aftermath of the trade deadline, but the team currently has two openings in its rotation after demoting Noah Schultz to Triple-A Charlotte on Aug. 8 and placing Davis Martin (finger) on the injured list Friday. Jose Urquidy worked in bulk relief last week when Schultz's turn in the rotation came up, and Fedde looks like a logical choice to help fill innings Tuesday, which would have been Martin's spot. After Martin departed Thursday's 9-8 loss to the Reds early when he developed a blister, Fedde came on in long relief and allowed four earned runs on five hits and two walks over three frames.
