Fans five in season debut
Williamson did not factor into the decision in Sunday's win over Milwaukee, allowing two earned runs on four hits and zero walks while striking out five in 3.1 innings.
Análisis
Working his way back from a shoulder injury that sidelined most of the season, Williamson made his 2024 debut Sunday after just one rehab start in the minors. The 26-year-old impressed early on, retiring the first seven batters he faced including a strong second inning where he struck out the side. Williamson slowed down as the game progressed, allowing a sacrifice fly in the third and a solo home run to Willy Adames in the fourth before departing after 66 pitches. Williamson displayed impressive control Sunday, throwing 44 of his 66 pitches for strikes en route to a flawless 5:0 K:BB. The southpaw started 23 games for Cincinnati as a rookie last season, going 5-5 with a 4.46 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 98:39 K:BB in 117 innings.

Activated ahead of start
The Reds reinstated Williamson (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Brewers.
Análisis
Despite having been on the IL all season and having just restarted his minor-league rehab assignment Tuesday, Williamson will get the green light to rejoin the Cincinnati rotation with the roster expanding to 28 men Sunday. After tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and 50 pitches in his rehab start with Triple-A Louisville, Williamson will almost surely be in store for a limited workload Sunday and may not reach the five innings he would need to qualify for a win. Jakob Junis made a four-inning start Tuesday and could end up piggybacking Williamson if the Reds want to go that route.

Set to return Sunday
Williamson (shoulder) will be activated from the 60-day injured list and start in Sunday's game against the Brewers, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Análisis
Williamson began the regular season on the 15-day injured list due to a left shoulder injury. He started a rehab assignment in May after being transferred to the 60-day IL, but he was shut down from that program and was faced with season-ending surgery to remove a Bennett lesion in his left shoulder. Williamson opted for injections instead, and after resuming his throwing program after the All-Star break, he progressed to a rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, during which he threw 50 pitches over 2.2 scoreless innings. 2023 was Williamson's first season in the majors, and across 23 starts, he posted a 5-5 record with a 4.46 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 98:39 K:BB over 117 innings.

Shines in short rehab start
Williamson (shoulder) struck out four and gave up one hit and one walk over 2.2 scoreless innings in his rehab start Tuesday for Triple-A Louisville.
Análisis
After making four rehab starts in May and June, Williamson was pulled off his minor-league assignment when he experienced a setback with his shoulder. He was then diagnosed with a Bennett lesion in his shoulder, but rather than opting for season-ending surgery to address the issue, he instead received injections to treat the injury. Williamson seems to be responding well more than two months later, and he took a major step forward in the recovery process by restarting his rehab assignment Tuesday. He tossed 50 pitches (26 strikes) in the rehab outing for Louisville, generating seven swings and misses along the way. Williamson will likely continue to build up over at least two more rehab outings before he becomes a realistic option for the Cincinnati rotation.

Scheduled for rehab start
Williamson (shoulder) is scheduled to start for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Análisis
Williamson, who threw two innings at the Reds' complex in Arizona last Thursday, is scheduled for three innings in what will be the first appearance of his second rehab assignment. The left-hander opened the season on the injured list due to a left shoulder strain and was pulled off an earlier rehab assignment in June, when he was diagnosed with a Bennett lesion in the shoulder.
