Struggles versus Marlins

Soriano (3-5) allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out one over 4.2 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Marlins.

Analysis

Soriano threw 97 pitches (52 strikes) in the outing, which saw him fail to complete five innings for the first time since April 22 versus the Pirates. The right-hander has walked at least three batters in four straight starts, though he hasn't given up more than three runs in any of those outings. He's now at a 3.73 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 47:30 K:BB across 62.2 innings over 11 starts this season. Soriano's walk rate (4.3 BB/9) is too high to sustain success in the long run. He is projected to make his next start at Cleveland.

Earns third win

Soriano (3-4) allowed three runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four over six innings to earn the win over the Athletics on Monday.

Analysis

Soriano wasn't at his best, but he was still good enough to picked up his third quality start over four outings in May. He also got back in the win column for the first time since April 10 versus the Rays. Soriano's continued success has come from keeping the ball down -- he hasn't allowed a home run in his last five starts and has given up just three long balls all season. That's helped to keep his ERA at 3.57 despite a 1.48 WHIP and 46:27 K:BB over 58 innings. His next start is expected to be in a favorable home matchup versus the Marlins this weekend.
