Secures victory in return

Soriano (9-9) threw 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and issuing one walk while striking out six batters, to earn the win over Texas on Monday.

Analysis

Soriano's previous start had come eight days ago because he missed some time while on the paternity list. The extra days off appeared to serve the right-hander well, as he kept Texas from producing any extra-base hits over 5.2 scoreless frames. Soriano couldn't quite record a quality start -- he was pulled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth after allowing the final two batters he faced to reach base -- but this was nonetheless a strong bounce-back after he gave up five runs over 5.2 innings in his previous start. Soriano will try to build on Monday's excellent outing the next time he takes the mound, which lines up to be against Houston this weekend.

Returns from restricted list

The Angels reinstated Soriano (personal) from the restricted list Sunday.

Analysis

Soriano wasn't ready to rejoin the Angels after the maximum three days on the paternity list, so the club shifted him to the restricted list Saturday in a procedural move. He's slated to make his next start Monday versus the Rangers.

Requires extra time away

Soriano (personal) was moved from the paternity list to the restricted list Saturday.

Analysis

Per Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, Soriano traveled back to the Dominican Republic for the birth of his child and required four days off -- one more than the maximum allowed on the paternity list. The expectation is that Soriano will join the team Sunday and make his scheduled start Monday at Texas.

Placed on paternity list

The Angels placed Soriano on the paternity list Wednesday.

Analysis

Soriano is tentatively lined up to start against the Cubs this weekend, and he should still be available to pitch since players can spend only 1-to-3 days on the paternity list. The Angels recalled Chase Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake, who could make a spot start if Soriano is away from the team for longer than expected. Soriano has gone 2-2 in six starts since the All-Star break with a 4.29 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 32:9 K:BB across 35.2 innings.
