Idle against southpaw
Baty is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Analyse
He'll take a seat while southpaw Bailey Falter toes the rubber for Pittsburgh, but the left-handed-hitting Baty seems to have played his way into a regular role against right-handed pitching for the time being. After getting called up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 5, Baty has started in five of the Mets' seven matchups with right-handers during that stretch and has gone 6-for-17 with four home runs and seven RBI.

Plays hero in Tuesday's win
Baty went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Pirates.
Analyse
Getting the start at second base and batting eighth, Baty broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning when he drove a Mitch Keller changeup just over the fence in left field. Baty has been getting consistent playing time against right-handed pitching since returning to the majors earlier this month, and he's rewarded the Mets' confidence in him by going 6-for-17 (.353) with four homers and seven RBI over the last six games. The team isn't using Baty and Mark Vientos in a strict platoon at third base, but instead both players have been in the lineup in three of the last four games with Vientos getting two nods at DH. That arrangement will likely continue as long as both young hitters are swinging hot bats.

Back on bench Sunday
Baty is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Analyse
Though he'll hit the bench against Cubs southpaw Matthew Boyd, Baty appears to be pushing Mark Vientos for a regular spot in the lineup at third base versus right-handed pitching. Baty started each of the prior three games and went 4-for-12 with three home runs and six RBI, while Vientos made just one start at designated hitter during that stretch.

Launches two homers Saturday
Baty went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI in Saturday's loss to the Cubs.
Analyse
All five of New York's runs in the contest came as a result of a Baty homer -- he belted a three-run shot in the fourth frame and added a two-run blast in the eighth. He's started at third base in three straight games and has gone 4-for-12 with three homers and six RBI during that span. Mark Vientos was on the bench for the first two of those contests and started at DH on Saturday, and given his mediocre results so far this season (he has a .675 OPS through 36 games), Vientos could be asked to cede more starts at third while Baty is swinging a hot bat.

Slugs second homer
Baty went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's win over the Cubs.
Analyse
Getting his second straight start at third base, his first action since rejoining the big-league roster at the beginning of the week, Baty took Jameson Taillon deep in the second inning, one of four homers the Mets hit off the right-hander. With Mark Vientos struggling, the door could be opening for Baty to push for the starting job at the hot corner. The 25-year-old will need to show more consistency himself, however -- through 65 MLB plate appearances this year he's slashing just .210/.246/.387 with two homers and a 30.8 percent strikeout rate.
