Key Updates to Sorare Marketplace Payments
Global • vor 3 Jahren
On Wednesday, March 29, at 4pm CET/10am ET, Sorare will temporarily remove credit card and debit card payments on its Manager Sales Marketplace (Secondary Marketplace) – the peer-to-peer Manager Marketplace where digital player cards are bought, sold, and traded.
Please note Sorare Managers will still be able to use their ETH wallet to purchase digital player cards and facilitate exchanges on the Secondary Marketplace. And there will be no payment changes to Sorare's Primary Marketplace, including digital player cards purchased at auction and Starter Packs.
After conducting a holistic review of payment processes, we discovered opportunities to safeguard and improve workflows, including some specific to credit card payments on the Secondary Marketplace. For example, one benefit of this change will address a pattern of credit card fraud; while not a common occurrence, it will more effectively redirect fraudulent users to paths that are easier to deter. It will also enable Sorare to open bank accounts in regions of the world where banks recently requested this change to comply with their own new internal policies.
Like any platform that operates a marketplace, Sorare has to consider tradeoffs between flexibility and safety in our payments support, most recently with this change and in the past with actions like assessing a credit card fee on Secondary Marketplace purchases. Our goal is to protect against unwanted activity without inconveniencing legitimate Sorare Managers and we are making progress on a long-term solution.
We understand this is a transition and will require some Managers to adjust their payment process. Please note our ultimate goal is to launch a seamless fiat wallet system that will solve the existing wallet system challenges. (This is in addition to an ETH wallet system.) We are making progress on this project – which is similar in scale to our blockchain scaling solution that launched in July 2021 – and with its implementation can’t wait to welcome even more passionate global sports fans to the Sorare community.
We’ll continue to provide updates on our progress and look forward to your feedback.
